UI Summer Commencement Exercises To Be Held Aug. 2

Two commencement ceremonies will mark the end of the summer 2002 academic session at the University of Iowa on Friday, Aug. 2. Doctoral and master's degrees will be conferred at a 2 p.m. ceremony in Hancher Auditorium. Bachelor's degrees will be awarded at a 7:30 p.m. ceremony, also at Hancher.

There are 1,000 summer degree candidates, including 375 graduate students and 625 undergraduates. Provost Jon Whitmore will confer degrees at the graduate commencement. David Skorton, vice president for research and external relations, will confer degrees at the undergraduate ceremony.

Seating for the undergraduate ceremony is reserved. Students may pick up their tickets from Window D of the Registrar's Office (1 Jessup Hall). The deadline for ticket pick-up is 4 p.m. Friday, July 26. The 2 p.m. graduate commencement is open to the public; no tickets are required.

The Graduate College ceremony will be re-broadcast on UITV at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, Aug. 3-5. UITV is available to cable subscribers in Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, Coralville, and surrounding communities. Check your local television listing for channel information.
