MEDIA ADVISORY: BOARD OF REGENTS PRESIDENT ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF SEARCH
COMMITTEE MEMBERS AND CHOICES OF EXECUTIVE SEARCH FIRMS IN PRESIDENTIAL SEARCH
AT THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA AND THE SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH AT THE IOWA SCHOOL
FOR THE DEAF
Owen J. Newlin, President of the Board of Regents, State of Iowa, announced
today his recommendations in two leadership search processes at Regent institutions.
The recommendations will be presented to the Board formally and action will
be taken at the Thursday, July 18 meeting of the Board of Regents, which will
be held on the campus of the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.
A total of twenty-three members of the University of Iowa campus community
are being recommended as voting members of the Presidential Search and Screen
Advisory Committee, including Jonathan Carlson, who was named chair of the
panel last month. Additionally, there will be two non-voting members representing
the Board of Regents office serving on the committee. The members were all
selected through consultations between Regent President Newlin, Committee
Chairman Carlson, and Faculty Senate President Jeff Cox.
I believe this group represents an excellent blend of the wide and
diverse community of interests at the University, Newlin stated. We
have faculty members from many different fields of academic study, as well
as professional staff, students, and alumni representing the diversity of
roles and viewpoints within the University.

It was also announced today that Korn-Ferry International was selected as
the search firm for this project as a result of evaluations of executive search
firms seeking to serve as consultant. Last month the Board authorized Executive
Director Greg Nichols, with the approval of President Owen Newlin, to contract
with an executive search firm. Korn-Ferry was the firm used last year by the
Board in the presidential search at Iowa State University and for several
others previously. They were selected after a review of all firms expressing
interest, including formal proposals and interviews with three firms considered
the best qualified to conduct such a higher education executive search.
Newlin also released today the names of those being recommended for the Superintendent
Search Advisory Committee at the Iowa School for the Deaf in Council Bluffs.
This will be an eleven-member committee that will be chaired by Dr. Richard
Hurtig from the University of Iowa, who has served as chairperson of the Iowa
School for the Deaf Advisory Committee.
The executive search firm selected to assist in the Iowa School for the Deaf
process is Francis and Associates of West Des Moines.
