Women's Center offers workshop on personal financial planning
The Women's Resource and Action Center along with the Iowa Women's Foundation
and the Iowa City Public Library will continue the 2001-2002 Women and Money
workshop series on Thursday, Jan. 24. The workshop, "A Year for Planning
Wisely: Your Personal Finances," will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in
Meeting Room A at the Iowa City Public Library.
Rita Rawson will be the featured speaker. Rita returns to the Women and
Money workshop series from American Express Financial Advisors to offer her
expertise in the area of personal finance. The workshop will focus on ways
to manage and prioritize personal financial obligations. Topics include strategies
to reduce personal debt, guidelines for choosing the best credit card for
one's needs, tools to help determine a reasonable payment plan, and how to
develop a workable budget to help meet personal financial goals.
Although the workshops in this series are developed for women, everyone
is welcome to attend. The New Pioneer Co-op will provide refreshments. The
workshops in this series are designed for participants of all income levels
and financial goals. Seating and materials for workshops may be limited, so
pre-registration is strongly encouraged.
The next workshop in the series will be "Retirement: Planning for Your
Future," on Thursday, Feb. 21. To register for any workshop in the series

Women's Resource and Action Center to offer workshop on effective decision-making
The Women's Resource and Action Center at the University of Iowa will continue
its ongoing Social Change Training Series with a workshop entitled "Planning
and Facilitating Effective Decision-Making Groups" on Tuesday, Jan. 29
from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in Room 351 of the Iowa Memorial Union.
The workshop will focus on providing tools to help people lead productive
meetings and clarifying positions and roles for effective group decision-making.
The workshop leader will be Monique DiCarlo, director of the Women's Resource
and Action Center. DiCarlo, has more than 15 years of experience in planning
and facilitating a wide variety of meetings. She currently serves as board
president of Iowa Shares and has just finished serving two terms on the Iowa
Women's Foundation Board. DiCarlo is also an adjunct faculty member in the
UI School of Social Work and the Non-Profit Development Center.
There is a $10 registration fee for the workshop. A limited number of scholarships
are available. Childcare may be provided. Requests must be made by Jan. 22.
