Black History month oratory contest Feb. 16

The Black Law Students Association, an organization of students at the University of Iowa College of Law, will sponsor an oratorical contest open to all school-age and college students who are asked to craft an original five- to seven-minute speech that addresses the question of what Black History month means. The deadline for entries is Tuesday, Feb. 12 with the actual readings to take place Saturday, Feb. 16 in the Levitt Auditorium of the Boyd Law Building.

The Alexander G. Clark Oratorical Contest is being held in celebration of Black History month, and is expected to be an annual event organized by the A.G. Clark Sr. and Jr. chapter of the BLSA. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place selections, with the first place winner receiving a $75 cash award. A reception will follow the event. The winner of the contest will be honored at BLSA's Annual Night of Distinction Banquet and Ball on March 29 at the Iowa Memorial Union Richie Ballroom.
