Release: Dec. 17, 2002

New Hawk ID password for ITS (Blue) E-mail account holders

On Dec. 12 University of Iowa Information Technology Services (ITS) notified ITS (Blue) E-mail account holders (e.g., Eudora, WebMail, Pine, etc.) that they will need to begin using the Hawk ID and Hawk ID Password for authentication, effective Jan. 13, 2003. Prior to Jan. 13 it is very important that users find out what their Hawk ID and associated Hawk ID Password are, and be ready to use them on January 13. If ITS (Blue) E-mail account holders are unsure, or to verify what their Hawk ID and Hawk ID Password are, go to and click on the ITS (Blue) E-mail link.

Remember that how ITS (Blue) E-mail account holders access ITS (Blue) E-mail will not change until Jan. 13.

The goal of the Hawk ID and Hawk ID Password is to provide a simplified sign-on experience for ITS (Blue) E-mail account holders at the UI by reducing the number of passwords that they have to remember.

For information about the Hawk ID (including those services affected by this change), go to If you have questions, please contact the ITS Help Desk at 384-HELP (4357) or via e-mail at You may also contact your collegiate or local IT support person.
