Registration is under way for UI undergraduate business courses in Des Moines

Registration is now under way for two University of Iowa undergraduate business classes starting this spring at the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) West Campus.

Starting in January, students in the Des Moines area will be able to take courses offered by the UI's Henry B. Tippie College of Business without leaving town. Interested students can register for the spring courses online at until Jan. 3. Interested DMACC students may also ask their advisors for an application.

Students can also register at an information session 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10 in the second floor auditorium at the DMACC West Campus, 5959 Grand Avenue, West Des Moines. Representatives from the Tippie College will provide information about two spring semester classes, as well as proposed courses for summer and fall.

The courses starting the week of Jan. 13 are Marketing (6M:100) and Financial Management (6F:100), both junior-level core courses required for an undergraduate degree from the Tippie College of Business. The schedule calls for these courses to be offered again during the Fall 2003 semester, along with additional courses. In the summer term, the college plans to offer two elective courses.

Open to students from all Des Moines-area colleges, as well as other qualified individuals, the courses will have limited enrollment. These three-credit hour courses are transferable to DMACC, Iowa State University, and many other colleges and universities in the area. Certain prerequisites may apply to each course.

The impetus for this program came from a series of meetings with Des Moines area educational representatives who expressed a need and demand for upper division business courses in the Des Moines area.

Undergraduate tuition is $462 for a three-semester-hour class in the spring 2003 semester and is subject to change in future sessions.
