Sept. 11 memorial quilt raffle to benefit Children's Miracle Network

Proceeds from the raffle of a specially made quilt honoring those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001 will be donated to the Children's Miracle Network to benefit patients and their families at Children's Hospital of Iowa.

Dee Fischer of Milan, Ill. created the quilt in the memory of those who died at the hands of terrorists in New York, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania. Raffle tickets are available at a cost of $1 each, or six tickets for $5. The quilt will remain on display at the Wal-Mart store in Moline until the drawing takes place there at 6 p.m. Sept. 10.

Proceeds of the raffle will benefit patients of the Children's Hospital of Iowa at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City and its outreach clinics. One hundred percent of all donations to the Children's Miracle Network remain in the local region to benefit critically ill and injured children. More than 100,000 children receive care at Children's Hospital of Iowa each year, including thousands from eastern Iowa and western Illinois.

Children's Miracle Network is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to helping children by raising funds and awareness for 170 children's hospitals throughout North America. Children's Miracle Network partners with 135 radio stations and 200 television stations to help support critically ill and injured children. Since it inception in 1983, Children's Miracle Network has raised more than $2 billion for children's hospitals, including $229 million in 2001 alone.
