WRAC Offers Variety Of Discussion Groups For Women
The Women's Resource and Action Center (WRAC) at the University of Iowa
is offering a number of discussion groups for women this fall. Most of the
groups will begin meeting in September. All meetings will be at the Center,
130 N. Madison Street (across from the Iowa Memorial Union), unless otherwise
noted. Group participation is free; however, a $10 donation is suggested.
Pre-registration is required for some groups. To register, or for more information
about any of the groups, contact the Center at (319) 335-1486.
Dealing with Divorce Support Group -- Designed to help women cope with the
dynamics of divorce, this six-week group will help women identify and build
on their strengths. The goal is to end isolation and build community among
women as they cope with this transition. Childcare may be provided. Please
call ahead to check availability. The group will meet on Mondays from 7 to
8:30 p.m., beginning Sept. 16. Pre-registration is required. Participants
must join no later than
Wild Succulent Women -- This popular six-week group will meet on Tuesdays
from 7 to
9 p.m. beginning on Sept. 17. The group will provide space for women to explore
their lives from a different perspective. Participants will explore creative
paths to wildness, independence and openness. The group is designed for all
women to gain self-awareness of their own succulence based on their families,
cultures and childhoods. Participants must join no later than Sept. 24.
Pre-registration is required.
Whites for Racial Justice Discussion Group -- This eight-week group will
provide a safe environment for open, honest discussion about race relations.
The group will focus on the question: "What can whites do to promote
racial equality and justice?" The group will meet Tuesdays from 6:30
to 8 p.m. beginning Sept. 24. This is a drop-in group; no registration is
required. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Heart's Desire -- Become aware of your personal desires and begin working
toward fulfilling them. Explore what gives meaning to our lives through a
variety of activities including discussion, writing, and reading. The group
will meet on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., beginning Sept. 25. Participants
must join no later than Oct. 2. Pre-registration is required; group size is
limited to eight.
Gender Puzzle Support Group -- An eight-week, safe and supportive group
for people of any gender and/or sexual orientation to come and explore issues
regarding gender in society and in their personal lives. Participants will
investigate gender issues through film, articles and life experience discussions.
Complete confidentiality is expected from all participants. The Gender Puzzle
will meet on Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m., beginning Sept. 5. Pre-registration
is required; group size is limited to eight.
Eating Disorders This six-week group is designed for women and men
who currently have an eating disorder as well as for those who have experienced
an eating disorder in the past. The group's goals are to provide support,
to help participants gain better awareness of themselves and to continue their
steps toward recovery or to prevent relapse. Confidentiality is strictly upheld.
The group will meet Mondays from 7:30 to 9 p.m., beginning Sept. 23. Pre-registration
