B100 radiothon raises more than $60,000 for Children's Miracle Network

B100 99.7 FM personalities Julia Bradley and Jeff James reported that they raised $60,429.57 for the Children's Miracle Network during the station's 100-hour radiothon Aug. 13-17 at NorthPark Mall in Davenport.

Proceeds of the event will benefit patients of the Children's Hospital of Iowa at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City and its outreach clinics across the state. Some 100 percent of all donations to the radiothon remain in the local region to benefit critically ill and injured children. More than 100,000 children receive care at the Children's Hospital of Iowa each year, including thousands from eastern Iowa and western Illinois.

"We can't say enough about our listeners other than that we love all of them," James said. "Each of them is a hero for the way they pitched in and helped support the patients of the Children's Hospital of Iowa." B100 99.7 FM audience members contributed $45,100 to the Children's Miracle Network during last year's radiothon.

"I tell people all the time that it is a real privilege to host this radiothon," Bradley added. "The children and the families we meet are truly inspirational."

The radiothon was broadcast live from NorthPark Mall in Davenport. The event kicked off at 5:30 a.m. Aug. 13 and concluded at noon on Saturday, Aug. 17. Bradley and James shared the stories of former and current patients of the Children's Hospital of Iowa and the dedicated physicians, nurses and other health care professionals who care for them.

Children's Miracle Network is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to helping children by raising funds and awareness for 170 children's hospitals throughout North America. Some 135 radio stations and 200 television stations help solicit donations to help support critically ill and injured children. Since it inception in 1983, Children's Miracle Network has raised more than $2 billion for children's hospitals, including $229 million in 2001 alone.

Children's Miracle Network reminds everyone who made a pledge recently to send in their donation as soon as possible so it can begin helping children immediately.
