Nursing specialist from Children's Hospital of Iowa selected as nurse fellow

An advanced practice nurse from the Children's Hospital of Iowa in University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics will be inducted as a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing (AAN) in November.

Charmaine Kleiber, Ph.D., recently received notification of her selection.

"I am so grateful to everyone at Children's Hospital of Iowa for the support that made this honor possible," Kleiber said. "It takes a total team effort to move researchers and clinicians forward, and our team is certainly among the best anywhere."

Some 72 of Kleiber's nursing peers from across the nation also received notice of their selection as fellows in the AAN.

Kleiber joined the staff of Nursing Services and Patient Care in 1983. She has special expertise in the development of evidence-based protocols for better managing pain among pediatric patients and in the conduct of clinical research initiatives.

Nursing leaders established the AAN in 1973 to provide visionary leadership to the nursing profession and to shape future health care policy and practice. Some 1,400 nurses currently serve as AAN fellows.
