WSUI's 'Live from Prairie Lights' readings set for April 22-26

Upcoming "Live from Prairie Lights" readings broadcast on WSUI-AM 910 will feature Richard Flanagan, Anchee Min, and Steve Almond.

Hosted by Julie Englander, "Live from Prairie Lights" is aired on WSUI, the UI's public radio station. The readings begin at 8 p.m. and are free and open to the public at the Prairie Lights Bookstore at 15 S. Dubuque St. in downtown Iowa City. Upcoming events include:

-- April 22: Richard Flanagan, a novelist from Tasmania, will read from "Gould's Book of Fish: A Novel in Twelve Fish," a historical epic of convicts and colonists in 19th century Australia.

-- April 24: Anchee Min, who lived through China's Cultural Revolution and has written of it in both her memoir, "Red Azalea," and her novel "Becoming Madame Mao," will read from "Wild Ginger," her third novel about love and Maoism.

-- April 26: Steve Almond will read from his first collection of short stories, "My Life in Heavy Metal," which explores the relationships between young men and women in a cynical era.
