UI MBAs win individual awards in Big Ten Case Competition
Two students from the Tippie School of Management at the University of Iowa
won individual awards at the 11th Annual Big Ten MBA Case Competition held
April 4-7 at Ohio State University's Fisher College of Business.
Tom Maes was given the Best Question and Answer Award for his responses
to panelists' questions, and Rob Van Auken received the Best Speaker Award
for his presentation. Maes and Van Auken teamed with Erin Kouri and Nicole
Pfeiffer in the team competition. Lopo Rego, visiting assistant professor
in the department of marketing, was the team's faculty coach.
The UI team was given a case about growing health service business from
a small enterprise to a medium sized firm on Friday with the final presentation
due 24 hours later on Saturday morning. Each team prepared a 25-minute presentation
that was followed by an intense 20-minute question-and-answer session by a
panel of judges composed of business school faculty and business executives.
In the final competition, Michigan State was selected as the winning team.
This is the second consecutive year that the Tippie School has swept the
individual awards portion of the competition. Second-year Tippie MBA students
Don Schmidt and Yana Adamichina received the individual awards last year.
