'Take Back the Night' march and rally, discussion
A "Take Back the Night"
march and rally will be held on Wednesday, April 24, beginning at 7 p.m. in
College Green Park, Iowa City. On Sunday, April 28 at 1 p.m. at the Iowa City
Public Library there will be a discussion of men's activism against domestic
violence. Both events are part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
"Take Back the Night,"
first held in Iowa City in the 1970s, was revived three years ago by Iowa
Women Initiating Social Change (IWIS), a volunteer group at the Women's Resource
and Action Center. This year's event, again organized by IWIS together with
women from several other campus and community organizations, will include
speakers, music, a march, and opportunities for survivors of sexual violence
to address participants.
"Take Back the Night"
rallies and marches are held in many communities throughout the United States
as an expression of support for survivors and victims of violence, particularly
domestic violence. "Take Back the Night" is a community and individual
expression of commitment to work for greater safety for everyone. The event
is free and open to the public.

Spring Fund Drive April 20-26
The University of Iowa's
public radio stations, WSUI-AM and KSUI-FM, will hold their second on-air
fund drive April 20-26.
The fund drive is being held
to raise money for the stations as they continue to feel the impact of state
budget cuts and rising costs of operation. Special broadcasts of "Car
Talk," "Fresh Air," "A Prairie Home Companion," "St.
Paul Sunday" and other popular public radio programs will air throughout
The first fund drive for
WSUI/KSUI, held Oct. 13-19, 2001, raised over $200,000 as part of a coordinated
campaign among public radio stations across the state and the nation to support
public radio. No specific monetary goal has been set for the spring drive.
