Homecoming 2001 activities announced

IOWA CITY—Homecoming 2001 activities at the University of Iowa begin in earnest on Tuesday, Sept. 25 with student field games at the UI's Hubbard Park and weeklong events which include an annual homecoming parade at 6:15 p.m. Friday in downtown Iowa City. Homecoming 2001 culminates with the UI vs. Penn State football game at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Kinnick Stadium.

Below is the Sept. 25-29 schedule of homecoming events, as released by the Homecoming Council, organizers of the annual event.

Tuesday, Sept. 25

Havoc at Hubbard. Jousting, bungee basketball and other field games for students

Wednesday, Sept. 26

Sports Night, Coral Ridge Mall, 6:30 p.m. – 9 p.m. Meet Herky and Iowa athletes. Entertainment from Lee Iban, the magician at 7:30 p.m., and Duder the Clown throughout the evening

Thursday, Sept. 27

Iowa Shout, Iowa Memorial Union Main Lounge, 8 p.m. Pairs of student organization perform skits and dance routines as part of a weeklong sweepstakes competition

Friday, Sept. 28

All-Alumni Homecoming Tent 4 p.m. – 6 p.m., Pedestrian Mall, Downtown Iowa City

Homecoming parade, 6:15 p.m., featuring floats, marching bands and entries from local businesses and student organizations, and parade grand marshal, UI basketball coach Steve Alford.

Thirteenth annual Open House, takes place at the Iowa Memorial Union, immediately following the parade until 9 p.m. Features children's activities, Babaloon the Clown, and Yahoo Drummers.

Saturday, Sept. 29

UI Alumni Association Hawkeye Experience Tent, 9 a.m. Located immediately west of the UI football practice facility and Recreation Building. Free drinks and bratwurst will be given to the first 500 guests. Staffed by UI Alumni Association.
