Community bulb planting scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 6
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- With fall colors just beginning to appear, a group of
University of Iowa and community volunteers is thinking ahead and gearing
up for a show of springtime splendor. On Saturday, Oct. 6 volunteers will
meet from 9 a.m. to noon to plant thousands of daffodil bulbs on the UI campus.
This is the fifth year of the "UI in Bloom" project.
Volunteers of all ages are invited to help with the planting. The group
will meet at Hubbard Park across from the Iowa Memorial Union.
Participants will be organized into teams led by members of the campus grounds
crew. Van transport will be available to shuttle volunteers to designated
planting sites around campus. Team leaders will provide instruction in basic
bulb planting techniques.
Volunteers who own trowels, bulb planters, or other tools are encouraged
to label their equipment and bring them to use at the event.
Free parking will be available in the Iowa Memorial Union Ramp and the North
Campus Ramp. For more information, contact University Relations at (319) 335-0557.
