UI College of Education to hold diversity celebration Friday

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa College of Education's Diversity Committee will hold a celebration Friday afternoon to showcase research by education faculty, staff and students and honor Iowa teachers who support diversity.

James Anderson, a University of Illinois professor who specializes in the history of American education, the history of African-American education, and race in American life and culture, will be the guest speaker for the event, which begins at 12:30 p.m. in Jones Commons, Room N300 of North Lindquist Center.

In addition to Anderson's speech, two Iowa teachers will be presented with a newly established award endowed by UI science education professor Robert Yager in memory of his late wife Phyllis's diversity efforts in the statewide K-12 school system.
