UI Career Center sponsors Careers Day Sept. 20

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Representatives from approximately 125 companies and organizations will be on campus Thursday, Sept. 20 to meet with students at the University of Iowa's 25th annual Careers Day, from noon to 5 p.m. in the Main Lounge of the Iowa Memorial Union (IMU).

Careers Day is designed to provide information and potential job contracts for students in all majors and at all levels of their educational careers. All classes (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, and graduate students) are welcome to attend.

Despite the recent economic downturn and less corporate recruiting, several top employers from Iowa and across the United States will be represented at Careers Day. Students can talk with representatives from national employers such as Kraft, American Express Financial Services, Caterpillar, and Archer Daniels Midland. Several Iowa-based companies including Pella Corporation, Principal Financial Group and Maytag will be at the Career Fair, as well as governmental agencies such as the Iowa Department of Division of Banking and the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

In addition to the diverse group of companies that will be at Careers Day, there will also be representatives from non-profit organizations, government agencies, law enforcement, and the U.S. armed services.

"Before the Careers Day, students should do some research and know something about the companies they are interested in," advised Jayne Swanson, UI program manager. "

All attending companies are listed the Career Center web site at: The site also includes a list of companies seeking students by their major, and a complete directory with company and position information, and links to company web sites.
