Media Advisory: UISG To Lead Candlelight Vigil Recognizing Today's Terrorist Actions

The University of Iowa Student Government has invited concerned students and UI community residents to attend a candlelight vigil 9 p.m. today (Tuesday) on the Pentacrest grounds.

Kara Westercamp, UI sophomore and UISG Collegiate Senate executive, says the vigil is being held to attempt to bring comfort to students and area residents who say they are emotionally upset after today's terrorist incidents in New York City, Washington D.C., and outside Pittsburgh. This event will allow students to gather to express their emotions and to signal that the UI community remains united,, Westercamp says.

Participants are asked to bring candles to tonight's event, which tentatively is expected to include a number of speakers, including, UI President Mary Sue Coleman, representatives from United Campus Ministry and local politicians.
