WSUI to broadcast 'Live from Prairie Lights' readings

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Upcoming "Live from Prairie Lights" broadcasts on WSUI 910 AM will feature readings by Rebecca Wolff, Lily James, Honor Moore, and Bill Ayers. There will also be a joint reading by Bin Ramke and Cole Swenson, and another reading from Peter Jenkins.

The readings, broadcast on University of Iowa's public radio station WSUI, are free and open to the public at the Prairie Lights Bookstore in downtown Iowa City. Upcoming readings include:

-- Rebecca Wolff is a poet and editor of "Fence Magazine." She will read from her collection "Manderley" that was chosen for the National Poetry series on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 8 p.m.

-- On Monday, Nov. 5 Lily James, a fiction writer, will read at 8 p.m. "The Great Taste of Straight People," a book of stories, and her novel, "High Drama in Fabulous Toledo," are appreciated for their comedic post-modern fiction.

-- Poet and non-fiction writer Honor Moore plans to read from her latest book of poems, "Darling." She will read on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at 8 p.m.

-- Bill Ayers will read Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 8 p.m. His memoir from the 1960s, "Fugitive Days," is considered both riveting and deeply moving.

-- On Thursday, Nov. 8 at 8 p.m. Bin Ramke and Cole Swenson will read from their latest collections. The two poets' most recent works, Ramke's "Airs, Waters, Places" and Swenson's "Such Rich Hours," were published by the University of Iowa Press in the Kuhl House Poets Series.

-- After a 5,000-mile journey across the United States, travel writer Peter Jenkins produced "A Walk Across America." He will read from his new book "Looking for Alaska" on Friday, Nov. 9 at 8 p.m.
