UI engineer re-elected president of international association

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Forrest M. Holly, Jr., professor of civil and environmental engineering in the University of Iowa College of Engineering and researcher at IIHR -- Hydroscience and Engineering, has been elected to a second consecutive two-year term as president of the International Association of Hydraulic Engineering and Research.

Holly, who received his doctorate from Colorado State University in 1975 and came to the UI in 1982, is known for his research in such specialized fields as computational hydraulics, dispersion in natural waters, alluvial-river processes, and urban hydraulics. His current research interests include development of computer models for cooling-water temperature forecasting in nuclear powerplants, three-dimensional numerical modeling of sediment processes in natural waterways, and computer-based flow control in irrigation canal networks.
