IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Two University of Iowa College of Public Health publications
recently earned awards from the University & College Designers Association
(UCDA) for excellence in design.
UCDA, a professional organization committed to promoting excellence in visual
communications for educational institutions, selected two UI College of Public
Health publications to appear in its 31st Annual Design Competition. The winning
publications, chosen from among more than 1,500 print and electronic media
entries, were honored at the UCDA's annual conference held Sept. 22-25 in
Victoria, British Columbia.
The premier issue of the college's biannual newsletter, "wellspring,"
received an Award of Excellence in the category "Newsletters: Single

was edited by Daniel McMillan and Debra Venzke, with original photography
provided by Wayne Johnson.
"Workplace Violence: A Report to the Nation," a publication produced
by the college's Injury Prevention Research Center, also received an Award
of Excellence in the category "Publications: Research Publication."
The report, edited by Leslie Loveless, was designed by Patti ONeill
and featured illustrations by Luba Lukova.
Earlier this year, the college's 1999-2000 annual report, "A Year of
Growth," earned an Award of Excellence in the Stora Enso printed media
competition. The annual report was designed by Benson & Hepker Design
of Iowa City.
