Engineering library reopens with new name
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The engineering library, a branch of the University of
Iowa Libraries, has relocated into Room 2001 SC in the Seamans Center for
the Engineering Arts and Sciences from its temporary location in the main
As part of the overall Seamans Center and modernization project at the College
of Engineering, the space formally occupied by the engineering library was
renovated and expanded through a gift from William and Patricia A. Lichtenberger.
In recognition of the generosity of the Lichtenbergers toward the college
and in enabling these enhancements, the UI Libraries has agreed to rename
the library the Lichtenberger Engineering Library.
Renovation and improvements to the new library include better access to
electronic resources, addition of a multi-media classroom, new furniture and
book stacks, and flooring.
"The renovation of the engineering library will enable us to better
provide students and faculty with electronic and print information well into
the 21st century," says John W. Forys, Jr., head of the engineering library.
"We are delighted to be back in the engineering building where we can
better serve and have closer contact with our users," Forys said.
