UI engineer elected Fellow of international association

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Milan Sonka, professor of electrical and computer engineering in the University of Iowa College of Engineering,, has been elected a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

Sonka, who received his doctorate from the Czech Technical University of Prague in 1983 and came to the UI in 1990, was elected in recognition of his contributions to medical image analysis and computer vision. His research interests include medical imaging, image segmentation, and automated knowledge-based analysis.

The IEEE is a non-profit, technical professional association of more than 350,000 individual members in 150 countries. Through its members, the IEEE is a leading authority in technical areas ranging from computer engineering, biomedical technology and telecommunications, to electric power, aerospace and consumer electronics, among others.
