Charlotte Burt named Parent Child Family Nurse of the Year
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa College of Nursing's Parent Child
Family area of study named Charlotte Burt Parent Child Family Nurse of the
Year at a Nov. 15 award ceremony in Iowa City. Burt, of Ankeny, is a state
school nurse consultant to the Iowa Department of Education.
In citing Burt for the award, the college noted her work to foster improved
nursing practices in Iowa schools, develop administrative policies relating
to student health records confidentiality and other matters, and increase
outreach through a statewide listserve for school nurses.
"Through her leadership and vision, Charlotte Burt has benefited Iowa
students and their families," said Martha Craft-Rosenberg, Ph.D., professor
and chair of the college's Parent Child Family area of study. "She is
a real champion for the contributions school nurses make in keeping children
healthy so they can achieve their full potential and improve their academic
The Iowa Department of Education has also recognized Burt's accomplishments,
as have the American School Health Association, the National Association of
State School Nurse Consultants and Sigma Theta Tau International. In addition
to her official duties with the state, Burt has helped organize the UI College
of Nursing's annual School Nurse Conference for a number of years and currently
serves as an adjunct instructor at the college.
