Charlotte Burt named Parent Child Family Nurse of the Year

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa College of Nursing's Parent Child Family area of study named Charlotte Burt Parent Child Family Nurse of the Year at a Nov. 15 award ceremony in Iowa City. Burt, of Ankeny, is a state school nurse consultant to the Iowa Department of Education.

In citing Burt for the award, the college noted her work to foster improved nursing practices in Iowa schools, develop administrative policies relating to student health records confidentiality and other matters, and increase outreach through a statewide listserve for school nurses.

"Through her leadership and vision, Charlotte Burt has benefited Iowa students and their families," said Martha Craft-Rosenberg, Ph.D., professor and chair of the college's Parent Child Family area of study. "She is a real champion for the contributions school nurses make in keeping children healthy so they can achieve their full potential and improve their academic performance."

The Iowa Department of Education has also recognized Burt's accomplishments, as have the American School Health Association, the National Association of State School Nurse Consultants and Sigma Theta Tau International. In addition to her official duties with the state, Burt has helped organize the UI College of Nursing's annual School Nurse Conference for a number of years and currently serves as an adjunct instructor at the college.
