UI dance department will present new student works in fall Space/Place Concert

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa dance department will present the best recent choreography created by students in the department in the fall Space/Place Concert at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, in the Space/Place Theatre of UI North Hall.

Admission to the Space/Place Concert will be $10 ($5 for UI students and free to children 12 and younger).

The concert will feature 10 new works -- solos, duets, trios and small group works featuring a wide variety of music and text:

-- Pointe Piece (Untitled) and "Shelter" by Peggy Mead-Finizio;

-- "Silent Speaking" and "Courtesan" by Jennifer Medina;

-- "Telescope" by Tracy Vacura;

-- "Dysphonia" by Tony Orrico;

-- "Jogging in Central Park At Night" by Dawn Poirier;

-- Duet (Untitled) by Abby Nelson; and

-- "The Ya Ya Sisterhood" by Kathy Burnett.

A faculty adjudication panel selected the works on the concert from among dances submitted in audition by the choreographers.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 5-9 p.m. Sunday. Any remaining tickets will be on sale at the door. In addition to cash and checks, the University Box Office accepts MasterCard, Visa , American Express and Discover cards.

The dance department is part of the UI Division of Performing Arts in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
