Women's rights in Kosovo is focus of Nov. 19 International Mondays

Claire Cardwell will discuss "Working for Women's Rights in Kosovo" Monday, Nov. 19 from noon-1 p.m. in the International Center Lounge as part of the International Mondays lecture series. This event is free and open to the public, and a light lunch will be served. This is the last International Mondays lecture this semester. The series will resume in February 2002.

In August 2000, Cardwell left Iowa to volunteer in Kosovo. She spent the year providing support for children and families. During the lecture Cardwell will speak about her involvement with women's issues of domestic violence and sexual assault. She will also talk about her current involvement in developing protocol and implementation procedures to be used by public service professionals in dealing with victims of sexual assault in Kosovo. Cardwell has worked in the UI Office of International Students and Scholars for more than seven years.

The series is sponsored by UI International Programs and the Stanley-UI Foundation Support Organization and presents discussions with individuals who have had international experiences. For more information or special accommodations to attend this lecture, call Buffy Quintero, International Programs outreach coordinator, at (319) 335-0345.
