NCS Pearson CEO David Smith joins Tippie College of Business Board of
CITY, Iowa -- David W. Smith, president and CEO of NCS Pearson has joined
the Board of Visitors of the University of Iowa Henry B. Tippie College of
The Board of Visitors is made up of more than 20 business and academic leaders
who provide advice to the college about its programs and professional activities.
It meets once each semester at the college.
Smith, who earned his MBA from the Tippie College of Business, joined NCS
Pearson in 1988 as group vice president of its Education Systems Group. His
management experience encompasses testing, training, software and publishing
business units. He was appointed chief executive officer of NCS Pearson in
His most recent prior assignment was as president of NCS' Assessments and
Testing Services, where his executive responsibility covered three major divisions
representing more than $250 million in revenue. They included NCS Measurement
Services Division, the nation's largest commercial processor of student assessment
tests; the Assessments Division; and Virtual University Enterprises (VUE),
an electronic testing business.
Before joining NCS Pearson, Smith spent 15 years as a publisher of professional,
technical and scholarly books and materials. He held senior management positions
in McGraw-Hill Corporations Training Systems and College Divisions.
Prior to that, he had sales and marketing management responsibilities at William
C. Brown Group and Houghton Mifflin Corporation.
Currently, Smith serves on the board of directors of Capella Education Company.

a master of arts degree from Southern Illinois University.
