UI Arts Share Program presented a painting workshop at Roosevelt School in Iowa City

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa Arts Share program presented a painting and drawing after-school workshop, led by Greta Songe, on Thursday, Nov. 1 for students at Roosevelt Elementary School in Iowa City. The workshop was funded in part by a grant from Arts Share.

Songe is a graduate painter at the University of Iowa. A graduate of Louisiana State University, she was the recipient of several art scholarships. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and student art shows in Louisiana. She was selected to attend the Drawing Marathon at the New York Studio School in the summer of 2000, and she has participated in after-school programs in the Baton Rouge area.

The painting workshop at Roosevelt allowed kindergarten through sixth graders to explore crayon-resist techniques to make colorful leaves for fall collages.

The UI Arts Share program provides artistic resources from the Iowa Center for the Arts to schools and community organizations. The 2001 Arts Share roster includes more than 70 faculty and graduate students in music, theater, dance, the visual arts and creative writing.
