Award-winning UI Press poetry authors Ramke, Swensen at Prairie Lights

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Award-winning poets Bin Ramke and Cole Swenen, both of whom have been published by the University of Iowa Press and whose respective poetry collections are included in the Press' Kuhl House Poets series, will read at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8 at Prairie Lights Bookstore in Iowa City.

Ramke's "Airs, Waters, Places," an exploration of the natural world and our place in it, and Swensen's "Such Rich Hour," an examination of the ways in which the visual and verbal arts intersect and effect history, make up the new, three volume Kuhl House Poets series. The recently inaugurated series which seeks to reawaken readers to "a fresh consideration of the possibilities of language and feeling" is edited by Pulitzer Prize winner Jorie Graham, professor of Oratory and Rhetoric at Harvard University, and Mark Levine, assistant professor of poetry at the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop and author of "Debt" and "Enola Gay."

Ramke has written six books of poems, including "Wake," and "Massacre of the Innocents" (UI Press 1999, 1995). He teaches creative writing at the University of Denver.

Swensen's "Try" earned her the1998 Iowa Poetry Prize and the 2000 Poetry Center Book Award. She is director of the Creative Writing program at the University of Denver and is a translator of contemporary French poetry, fiction, and art criticism.
