UI MBAs place second in Big Ten Case Competition
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- A team of four students from the Tippie School of Management
at the University of Iowa placed second at the Big Ten MBA Case Competition
held April 26-28 at Ohio State University's Fisher School of Business.
Team members were first-year MBA students Yana Adamichina, Dan Caprar, Don
Schmidt and Andrea Wieland. Lopo Rego, visiting associate professor in the
Department of Marketing, was the team's faculty sponsor. In addition to the
team award, Adamichina received the award for Best Presenter and Schmidt received
the award for Best Questions and Answers.
The team was given a case about Singapore Airlines on Friday, April 27 with
the final presentation due early morning on Saturday, April 28. Each team
prepared a 50-minute presentation competing against two or three other teams
for a spot in the final competition Saturday afternoon.
In the first round of competition the UI team won over Minnesota and Michigan
State with Michigan and Penn State also winning their rounds. In the final
competition, Penn State was selected the winning team, according to the head
judges, by "...mere hundredths of a point..."
