UI to host summer journalism workshops for high school teachers

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa School of Journalism and Mass Communication will host its 49th annual summer journalism workshops for high school teachers in June and July.

Teachers can choose from among nine workshops offered between June 11 and July 28 on such topics as PhotoShop, yearbook advising, photojournalism, web page design basics, newspaper advising, teaching of journalistic writing and reporting, and reaching out to minority students.

Each workshop carries two semester hours of graduate credit, with the exception of the workshop on reaching out to minority students, which carries one hour. A maximum of eight hours may be taken.

Tuition is $412 for all workshops except "Reaching Out to Minority Students," which costs $206. Space is limited in many of the workshops, so teachers are encouraged to register soon. Housing is available for all workshop participants.
