Multicultural graduation banquet is May 10

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Minority students from the United States who will receive degrees from the University of Iowa will be honored Thursday, May 10 at the11th annual Multicultural Graduation and Recognition Banquet (MGRB). The banquet begins at 6 p.m. with a reception followed by ceremonies at 6:30 p.m. in the Second Floor Ballroom of the Iowa Memorial Union. Entertainment will be provided by Tek Winesberry.

MGRB, established in 1990 by the Athletic Department, the Graduate College and Special Support Programs, commemorates students receiving professional, graduate and undergraduate degrees. During the ceremonies, each UI college will confer a Dean's Achievement Award on a student, and various departments will present Student Leadership Awards.

The graduation program is held yearly on the Thursday preceding UI college-wide ceremonies. The event is open to UI students, faculty and staff and community leaders from all cultural backgrounds. The banquet is free for graduating UI students, their family and guests; the cost is $10 for faculty and staff.
