Old Capitol volunteers are honored

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Some 50 volunteers who serve at the Old Capitol Museum were honored at the 25th annual recognition reception on April 25.

Recognition for their continuing support and faithful service to Old Capitol was given to Miriam Canter for more than 3,000 hours, Phyllis Evans for contributing more than 2,500 hours and Vilda Sutherlin for contributing more than 1,500 hours.

Judy Brookhaus has contributed more than 1,000 hours. Included on the Roll of Honor with more than 500 volunteer hours were Imogene Fisher, Lucile Floyd, Ilene Greenwood, Jane Huit, Irene Kortanek and Pauline Wright. Maxine Miller was awarded the 400-hour pin.

New volunteers Nicole Cook, Angela Fritch, Chey Ness, Otty Blodi, and Dea Brown earned certificates.

Volunteers have contributed more than 83,000 hours in welcoming more than 700,000 visitors since the museum opened in 1976.
