Downsize This! An Evening with Michael Moore is April 4

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The irreverent Michael Moore, producer of the dark comedy "Roger and Me," the 1989 film that put the Michigan native on the entertainment map for his spoof on General Motors’ plant shutdowns, will visit the campus as a University of Iowa Lecture Committee guest. Moore will give a free and public presentation at 8 p.m., Wednesday, April 4 in the Main Lounge of the Iowa Memorial Union.

Moore, considered in some comedic circles as a guy who is as dangerous as Mike Wallace of "60 Minutes," but a whole lot funnier, took home an Emmy Award for his show "TV Nation," a satirical newsmagazine. Moore recently produced the documentary, "The Big One," which The New York Times called a "rare mainstream American film about real issues."

With the profits from "Roger and Me," Moore established the Center for Alternative Media, an organization that supports independent filmmakers and social action groups. To date, the center has given out $400,000 in grants.

The UI Lecture Committee invites prominent persons from a range of backgrounds, ideas, and opinions to give guest lectures at the UI to enhance the campus learning environment.
