IOWA BRASS QUINTET PRESENTS COMMUNITY CONCERT MARCH 25 -- The Iowa Brass Quintet, a faculty ensemble of the University of Iowa School of Music, will present a special free performance at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 25 in Clapp Recital Hall on the UI campus. The performance is part of the Target Community Concert Series, presented by the UI Division of Performing Arts and the UI Arts Share program.

The Iowa Brass Quintet, a resident faculty ensemble at the UI School of Music, performs on the UI campus each semester and for schools, universities, civic concert associations, and professional meetings throughout the United States. Founded in the early 1950s, the group has been widely acclaimed for its artistry in the performance of music of all periods and premieres of new Compositions. Its current members are David Greenhoe and Barbara Deur, trumpets; Kristin Thelander, horn; David Gier, trombone; and Robert Yeats, tuba.

The quintet’s CD, "Americana: A University of Iowa Celebration," features works by composers associated with the UI, either as faculty or students in the School of Music, or whose works have been favorites of the group over the years. It was released as part of the celebration of the UI Sesquicentennial in 1997.

UI Arts Share provides artistic resources from the Iowa Center for the Arts to schools and community organizations. The 2000-2001 Arts Share roster includes more then 70 faculty and graduate students in music, theatre, dance, the visual arts and creative writing.

Arts Share and Target began a partnership in 1995 designed to sponsor field trips, dance workshops and performances for children in Iowa community schools. The 2001 Target Community Concert Series will conclude with WIZARDS! A Double Reed Ensemble on March 31.
