UI Museum of Art presents 'Stampede' March 16 in conjunction with 'Lure of the West'

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa Museum of Art will present a concert by vocalist Chris Ridge and the country-rock band Stampede at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 16 in conjunction with its current exhibition, "Lure of the West: Treasures from the Smithsonian American Art Museum," on view at the museum through March 18. The performance will be free and open to the public.

Stampede is a six-piece band from Muscatine. The band’s lead vocalist, Ridge, was awarded Best New Female Artist at the 1994 Golden Microphone Awards in Nashville, Tenn., and was also nominated for best single with her number-one Cash Box Magazine hit, "If Your Temptation."

Kerri Collings the group’s drummer, has appeared in Modern Drummer Magazine. Other members of the band are John Haes, acoustic guitar and vocalist; Gary Gibson, lead guitar and vocalist; and David Sulzberger, keyboards.

The band appeared in Top 40 Country Hits and worked with artists including Clint Black, Neil McCoy, David Alan Coe, the Dixie Chicks and the Doobie Brothers.

Stampede mostly tours the Midwest, playing casinos and theaters from Illinois and Missouri to the Dakotas.

"We’re a versatile band," Ridge said. "We’ll definitely be rocking the place. We’ll show you a good time."

"Lure of the West: Treasures from the Smithsonian American Art Museum" explores the origins of the myths of the West that still generate in American culture.

"Lure of the West: Treasures from the Smithsonian American Art Museum" is one of eight exhibitions in "Treasures to Go," touring the nation through 2002. The Principal Financial Group is a proud partner in presenting these treasures to the American people.
