Langley named captain with UI Department of Public Safety

Larry M. Langley has been promoted to the position of captain with the University of Iowa Department of Public Safety (DPS), effective June 15.

Langley’s duties as DPS captain will be to provide assistance in the command of the day-to-day operations of the detective division, the telecommunications and dispatching center, and full- and part-time student dispatchers. He reports to the DPS director and associate director.

"Larry brings to the position a wealth of knowledge and experience," said Duane Papke, DPS associate director. "He has earned the respect of those within the department as well as the community."

Langley has been employed by the University of Iowa since August 1994, serving as a patrol officer and most recently patrol sergeant since May 1998. He was previously employed by the Coralville Police Department.

The Department of Public Safety is the University’s police department, providing protection for university personnel and property 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The DPS investigates crimes and incidents occurring on university property and also performs traffic and crowd control functions routinely and during special events.
