Kienzle appointed to AAMC editorial board

Michael G. Kienzle, M.D., associate dean for clinical affairs and biomedical communications in the University of Iowa College of Medicine, was appointed to a newly configured editorial board of Academic Medicine, the journal of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). As a member of the editorial board, Kienzle's responsibilities will include advising the editor on long and short-term planning for the journal and assisting the editor in acquiring unique articles of interest and importance to academic medicine.

Kienzle, an Iowa City native, earned his bachelor's and medical degrees from the UI. He completed his residency and fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

In 1984 Kienzle returned to his alma mater as an associate in cardiology. Kienzle holds the position of professor in the UI department of internal medicine and the UI College of Nursing in addition to his role as associate dean.

Kienzle is also known for his dedication in making the UI an international leader in telemedicine -- the use of telecommunication to transmit medical information to help health professionals diagnose and treat patients. Telemedicine efforts at the UI include the provision of videoconsultation services to children with special needs and chronic disease management in the home.
