UI College of Liberal Arts professor wins fiction award

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Venise Berry, a journalism professor in the University of Iowa College of Liberal Arts, has won an Honor Book Award from the Black Caucus of the American Library Association (BCALA) for her novel "All of Me," published by Dutton.

"All of Me," Berry’s second novel, is an emotionally charged account of society’s obsession with weight and one woman’s struggle to raise herself out of the depths of depression and self-hatred to the heights of self-acceptance and self-love.

The BCALA literary awards recognize excellence in adult fiction and nonfiction by African American authors published in 2000. Berry will receive her award during the 2001 ALA Annual Conference in San Francisco in June.
