UI's Sorenson elected chair of pharmacy committee of Children's Oncology
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Mark Sorenson, a clinical pharmacy specialist in pediatrics,
in the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics department of pharmaceutical
care, was recently elected chair of the Pharmacy Committee of the Children's
Oncology Group (COG).
"I am honored by this opportunity. My goals are to continue to enhance
the contributions of the Pharmacy Committee in the care of children with cancer,
especially in the areas of pharmacy-based research and education," Sorenson
COG was formed by the merger of the four national pediatric cancer research
organizations: the Children's Cancer Group, the Intergroup Rhabdomyoscarcoma
Study Group, the National Wilm's Tumor Study Group, and the Pediatric Oncology
Group. More than 235 member institutions are located throughout the United
States, Canada, Australia, the Netherlands, New Zealand and Switzerland. The
primary objective of the organization is to conduct clinical trials of new
therapies for childhood cancer.
