UI's Sorenson elected chair of pharmacy committee of Children's Oncology Group

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Mark Sorenson, a clinical pharmacy specialist in pediatrics, in the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics department of pharmaceutical care, was recently elected chair of the Pharmacy Committee of the Children's Oncology Group (COG).

"I am honored by this opportunity. My goals are to continue to enhance the contributions of the Pharmacy Committee in the care of children with cancer, especially in the areas of pharmacy-based research and education," Sorenson said.

COG was formed by the merger of the four national pediatric cancer research organizations: the Children's Cancer Group, the Intergroup Rhabdomyoscarcoma Study Group, the National Wilm's Tumor Study Group, and the Pediatric Oncology Group. More than 235 member institutions are located throughout the United States, Canada, Australia, the Netherlands, New Zealand and Switzerland. The primary objective of the organization is to conduct clinical trials of new therapies for childhood cancer.
