UI to interview candidates for senior associate athletic director
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- On-campus interviews with four candidates for University
of Iowa senior associate director of athletics/senior women's administrator
will begin Wednesday, Jan. 3, and continue through Tuesday, Jan. 16. Each
of the finalists for the position will make a public presentation as part
of her on-campus visit. The public presentations will be at 11 a.m. in the
Big Ten Room of Carver Hawkeye Arena.
The four candidates and the dates of their on-campus visits are:
- Jan. 3, Calli Sanders, senior associate athletic director at Montana State
- Jan. 11, Betsy J. Mosher, senior associate athletic director, Arizona State
- Jan. 12, Paula Jantz, associate athletic director, University of Iowa
- Jan. 16, Jane Meyer, director of educational outreach for the National
Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Indianapolis
The senior associate director of athletics/senior women's administrator
will report to UI Director of Athletics Robert Bowlsby and serve as chief
of staff, providing leadership to the UI's men's and women's athletic teams.
Sanders has been senior associate AD at Montana State University, Bozeman,
Mont.., since 1997. From 1990-97, she was associate director of athletics
at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is currently a doctoral degree
candidate in higher education administration at Montana State. She holds a
master's degree in education with an athletics administration emphasis from
the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a bachelor's degree in communications
from the University of Montana, Missoula.
Mosher has served as senior associate AD at Arizona State since 1996. She
was an athletics administrator with Northwestern University from 1989 to 1996,
serving as assistant director from 1989-94 and as associate director from
1994-96. She has also been a legislative assistant to the Big Ten Conference
and a compliance representative for the NCAA. She coached women's basketball
at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater from 1977-79 and coached women's
basketball and softball at California University of Pennsylvania from 1980-85.
She holds a bachelor's degree in education from Illinois State University,
a master's degree from the University of Northern Colorado, and a director's
degree from Indiana University.
Jantz has been associate women's athletic director at the UI since 1994.
She was assistant director of women's athletics from 1988 to 1994. She is
a member of the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators
and is currently a member of the Big Ten Conference Sports Management Committee,
Liaison to Big Ten Conference Coaching Groups in rowing, and in the past has
served as liaison to field hockey and softball. Jantz holds a master's degree
in athletic administration from the University of Iowa. She earned bachelor's
degrees in social science and physical education at Oklahoma State University,
Stillwater, where she was assistant softball coach in 1977 and head softball
coach in 1978.
Meyer has been director of education outreach for the NCAA since June 1999.
From 1993 to 1999, she was associate director of athletics, senior woman administrator
and assistant professor at the University of Wisconsin, LaCrosse. She earned
doctoral and master's degrees in athletics administration from the University
of Iowa. She also holds a bachelor's degree in biology from Mount Mercy College,
