New bridge provides safer crossing of Highway 6, Crandic tracks

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa’s new pedestrian and bicycle bridge over Highway 6 and the Crandic Railroad will be open for use starting Thursday, Feb. 8. The bridge, between Westlawn and the International Center, links the Health Science Campus and the Iowa Center for the Arts Campus. It was constructed to provide pedestrians and bicyclists with a safer and more convenient means of crossing the highway and the tracks, university officials say. New fencing and landscaping will soon be installed to discourage pedestrians from crossing the highway and the tracks at that location.
