College of Law confers degrees, Chief Magistrate Judge Jarvey delivers address

IOWA CITY, Iowa--Chief United States Magistrate Judge John A. Jarvey will deliver the commencement address on behalf of the University of Iowa College of Law when the college confers juris doctorate degrees to 25 graduates at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22 in the Levitt Auditorium of the Boyd Law Building.

A 9:30 a.m. coffee reception for the graduates, their families and Jarvey will take place at the law building prior to the ceremonies.

Jarvey has served as a United States magistrate judge for the Northern District of Iowa since 1987. His responsibilities include case management, alternative dispute resolution, trials of federal civil cases and all pre-trial proceedings in criminal cases.

He is president of Dean Mason Ladd American Inn of Court and is an adjunct trial advocacy professor at the UI College of Law. Jarvey is a former trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice, Washington, D.C.

The graduation ceremony is open to the public. Seats are not reserved and tickets are not necessary for admission.
