WSUI, KSUI announce new staff assignments
WSUI 910 AM and KSUI 91.7 FM, the University of Iowa's
public radio stations, have announced three new staff assignments.
Al Kern was recently named news director for WSUI.
Kern has been a producer at WSUI since August 1993, and his new duties include
the assignment of news stories to WSUI staffers and editing production of
AM news. Before joining WSUI, Kern was with KRNA radio for 16 years.
KSUI FM recently hired a new producer, Barney Sherman.
Sherman's writing on classical music has appeared in The New York Times and
the Los Angeles Times as well as the International Herald Tribune, Early Music,
Fanfare, Schwann/Opus and Gramophone Early Music.
At KSUI, Sherman hosts classical music during the
"Evening Program," 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays, and serves as
weekend host on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. He also produces news and
cultural features for WSUI and KSUI.
Jim Davies now serves as the chief engineer for WSUI
and KSUI. Davies, a native of Mount Vernon, arrives with an array of experience
from WMT AM and WMT FM in Cedar Rapids, where he began as "summer help on
the television side" 22 years ago. His first projects have been to move AM
operations to the new tower and facility. He will also be working to improve
KSUI's technical quality.
