Spiess named director of UI Health Care Palliative Care Service
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Jeffrey Spiess, M.D., University of Iowa associate professor
of internal medicine, was recently named director of the UI Health Care Palliative
Care Service. This service was established in 1999.
"I am very excited about this opportunity to improve and expand services
available for persons at the end of life, as well as to educate physicians
in training in this vital aspect of medical care," Spiess said.
Spiess received his medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio. He completed
his residency at the Medical College of Ohio and a fellowship in hematology/oncology
at the University Hospitals of Cleveland. He was director of the cancer program
at the Wooster Community Hospital and co-medical director of the Hospice of
Wayne County in Ohio.
Spiess is board certified in internal medicine, medical oncology, hematology,
and hospice and palliative care medicine. He joined the faculty of the UI
Department of Internal Medicine on April 1, 2001.
