ALFORD TO READ CHRISTMAS CLASSIC TO CHI PATIENTS AND FAMILIES
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Sam Alford, director of basketball operations at the
University of Iowa, will read the classic tale, "The Night Before Christmas"
to patients, families and visitors of the Children's Hospital of Iowa (CHI)
at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, during Story Hour in the Patients' Library.
That book has an even more special meaning for children and their families
at CHI this year. Throughout the holiday season, area Kohl's Department Stores
are offering four unique seasonal items, with all proceeds benefiting local
children's hospitals through its "Kohl's Cares for Kids" campaign.
Kohl's shoppers can help CHI by purchasing the festive items for the home
or office. The holiday gifts all priced at $5 have been made
exclusively for Kohl's and include the family favorite book, "The Night
Before Christmas," a plush bear, a handcrafted and hand-painted "Kohl's
Cares for Kids" bear ornament, and a holiday CD featuring such artists
as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Lou Rawls singing popular songs of the
