UI Phi Beta Kappa chapter inducts new members
IOWA CITY, Iowa Some 37 University of Iowa seniors will be inducted
into the Alpha of Iowa chapter of Phi Beta Kappa honor society during the
chapter's fall initiation and reception for new members, to be held at 1:30
p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9 in the Richey Ballroom (3rd floor) of the Iowa Memorial
The ceremony will feature guest speaker Susan Shullaw, University of Iowa
Foundation vice president for communications and campaign support. She will
deliver an address, "The Relevance of a Liberal Arts Education."
The initiation has been changed from the original location in the Senate
Chamber, Old Capital Building due to the recent fire. A reception, also in
the Richey Ballroom, will immediately follow the initiation.
Phi Beta Kappa is academe's oldest Greek letter fraternity, and, nationally,
only 10 percent of college students are inducted. For more information on
the ceremony, contact Pat Mason-Browne, assistant director, academic programs
and services, at 335-2633 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
