UI professor appointed to engineering society executive committee

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Jasbir S. Arora, professor of civil and environmental engineering in the University of Iowa College of Engineering, has been nominated and appointed a member of the executive committee of the Technical Activities Division (TAD), Structural Engineering Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) for a period of five years.

In his new position, he will represent ASCE Zone III, which includes the Midwest, as it manages all TAD activities. Executive Committee activities include managing a large budget, organizing conferences, and managing several administrative committees.

Arora, who received his doctorate from the University of Iowa in 1971 and joined the UI faculty in 1972, has research interests in structural systems -- such as cars, airplanes, buildings and bridges -- and holds joint appointments in the departments of mechanical engineering and physical therapy.
