UI hosts alcohol-free tailgate for Sept. 1 game
IOWA CITY -- The University of Iowa Residence Life Program will host an
alcohol-free tailgate party just south of Slater Residence Hall beginning
at 9 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 1, prior to the Kent State v. Iowa football game,
which starts at 11:10 a.m. at Kinnick Stadium. Lot 14, directly behind Slater
on the west campus, is also alcohol free. Parking admission is $5.
The tailgate event, which includes free food and beverages, is open to all
students, game goers, and community members.
The UI's Stepping Up Project, a community and campus coalition to help reduce
the harmful effects of excessive drinking, is sponsoring the alcohol-free
tailgate. The Stepping Up Project is funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation,
the nation's largest healthcare philanthropy. For more information, call Julie
Phye, director, Stepping Up Project, at (319) 335-1349.
