Andrew Sheehy named to UI Foundation development post

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Andrew Sheehy of Iowa City has been named the University of Iowa Foundation’s director of development for the College of Education. Sheehy will focus on generating major private gift support for the college and the Belin-Blank Center for Gifted Education and Talent Development.

Sheehy, who joined the UI Foundation July 24, previously served as associate director of development at Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa. He also worked in admissions at Grinnell College for four years.

Sheehy is looking forward to advancing the work of the College of Education.

“The University of Iowa College of Education, which is ranked among the top 35 programs in the nation, performs a critical role in preparing the next generation of leaders in education,” Sheehy said. “The opportunity to develop long-term support for the college and the Belin-Blank Center allows the university to make commitments to faculty members who initiate important research, develop stronger teaching programs, and invest in new teaching techniques. Their work positively affects the nation’s youth, and that’s very gratifying for all who work to support the college.”

A native of Ireland, Sheehy graduated from Grinnell College in 1992 with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish. Sheehy and his wife, Shannon, have two children, Jacob, 9, and Emmet, 4 months.

The UI Foundation is the preferred channel for private contributions to all areas of the university. Foundation staff work with alumni and friends to generate funds for scholarships, professorships, facilities improvements, equipment purchases, research and other UI initiatives.
